Most of us neglect taking proper care of the mouth. Research has shown that a healthy mouth is usually a good indicator of a healthy body. This makes our oral cavities the gateway to the body’s overall health.

How do they connect?

It is advised that we brush our teeth at least two times a day after meals. This simple task will keep the bacteria within your mouth in check. Regular visits to your dentist and easting fewer sweets in the night may keep you right on track.

However if you let these good habits slide the bacteria will be out of control. Dental infections and cavities are some of the less harmful of the illnesses that improper oral care can cause. Studies show that around forty percent of the people with gum diseases are more likely to suffer from serious illnesses.

It is quite surprising what neglecting your oral health can lead you to; some of the ailments mentioned seemed to have no connection to the mouth at all. However dentists believe that improper oral care is one of the reasons for contracting the diseases mentioned bellow.

If you have gum disease, the next step is Diabetes. Gum disease makes it hard to control your sugar levels.

No. bad oral habits won’t cause pregnancy, but it will affect your child if you are pregnant. It may cause your child to be premature and less of weight.

Alzheimer’s disease

This is a stunner. However it has been observed that Alzheimer’s is more common among those who lost their teeth before 35.

Maintain your dental habits.

The list above ought to have made you care for your teeth more than you once did. Taking care of your teeth is not hard. You just need to add it into your routine. Get used to brushing your teeth before bed and washing your mouth after meals. If you have got into a habit of flossing, it’s best you continue it.

Dentists maybe a tad bit expensive, but money can only help health for a limited time. Schedule a trip to the dentist at least once every three months. Follow his instructions on when you are to see him again. Regular check-ups will keep you warned of what may go wrong and how to fix it.

Choose a good type of toothpaste, ask your dentist to suggest one. Make sure you change your tooth brush at least every three months. If you notice that any of its bristles are frayed, buy yourself a new one. Make sure you reach all those corners when you brush your teeth.

After brushing make sure you wash well between the bristles. You don’t need your tooth-brush to be infected with bacteria

Pay attention to your oral health. Toothache is not the only problem you have to worry about.
